JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS Scheduled Weekly Hours: 40 WORK SHIFT: 8:00am to 4:30pm JOB SUMMARY: The HIM Charge Capture Specialist – Performs ED charge entry (ED, ED to Observation, and ED to Inpatient) through review and analysis of electronic, paper, or hybrid patient medical records and applies CPT-4 codes with corresponding procedure charges. In addition, the Specialist is responsible for daily monitoring and management of unbilled accounts. These responsibilities include working with medical and ancillary support staff to resolve documentation deficiencies to facilitate timely coding and billing of claims. Adheres to ST Tammany Health System (STHS) coding compliance policies and procedures. Maintains or exceeds established quality and productivity standards. Works independently with minimal supervision. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High School diploma or equivalent. Certified Coding Associate (CCA) required OR 1-3 years of charging experience in a hospital setting in lieu of certification. 4-6 years of relevant experience OR associate or bachelor’s degree in lieu of experience. Knowledge of CPT-4 and basic coding and charging principles. Knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy and physiology. Experience with an electronic medical record. Proficient in the use of personal computers, Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, Power Point). Effective communication skills – both verbal and written. Good organizational and time management skills. Pref
