It is expected that, over a period of time, Materials Technologists obtain competency in all tests conducted in the laboratory. Know and be comfortable with standards codes such as ASTM, ASME, CSA, NACE, API, AWS. Awareness of all testing results and how they apply to the given code. Technologists are expected to flag failed test results to their supervisor. Learn to personally organize their own daily testing tasks based on the workflow and due dates given to them. Maintain Laboratory and personal work area in a clean and professional manner. Work within the rules of the ISO 17025 quality program. Maintain Test equipment and conduct scheduled maintenance on test equipment. Work with customers and co-workers to improve work processes and resolve technical issues. Follows all company health, safety and environmental policies. Follows all Quality system protocols and reports any discrepancies to the Supervisor. May be assigned and coordinate special or ad hoc projects as needed. Education: A post-secondary education (degree and/or diploma) in Materials Engineering Technology, Welding Engineering Technology or other related program is required. Experience: Upon hiring, the Materials Technologist shall meet one of the following criteria for certification: Be registered with or be eligible for registration with the Association of Science and Engineering Technology Professionals of Alberta (ASET) 3-5 years of relevant laboratory experience would be an asset. Technical Skills: Must be able to read, understand and follow work instructions in a safe, accurate and timely manner. Knowledge Image analysis operation/software considered an asset C
