Software Engineer

Listed as a remote role based in Ljubljana, Ljubljana, Slovenia. Soniox is building frontier AI for speech, language, and human communication. We are looking for exceptional engineers who love building things and solving hard, open-ended problems. This is not a narrowly defined software engineering role. You may work across AI models, training, inference, distributed systems, backend, infrastructure, data, or entirely new technology we need to build. The problems change constantly, and we expect engineers to be able to move across the stack and learn new areas quickly. What we are looking for You are an exceptional programmer and deeply technical. You are creative and can find solutions to problems that do not have obvious answers. You can hold complicated systems and problems in your head, reason about them end-to-end, and avoid optimizing only one small piece in isolation. You are comfortable working across different technologies, codebases, and engineering stacks. You are proactive. You see something that can be better and want to improve it. You are genuinely interested in technology, computing, AI, open-source projects, and understanding how things work. You stay aware of new technologies, research, tools, and solutions being developed around the world. You are comfortable with ambiguity, changing direction, rapid iteration, and approaches that sometimes fail. Most importantly, you love building. What you will do You will work on some of the hardest technical problems at Soniox, from developing new AI models to making them run extremely fast and reliably at global scale. Depending on the problem, that may mean working on neural networks, training systems, GPU inference, distributed systems, infrastructure, data, backend systems, or something completely new. We care much more about your ability to think, learn, build, and solve difficult problems than whether your previous job had exactly the right title or technology stack.
