Senior Platform Engineer

We’re now looking for a Senior Software Engineer with strong DevOps experience, or a software engineer ready to evolve into the platform engineering discipline to join our DevOps Chapter. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a background in building microservices and distributed systems who’s eager to shape the future of platforms and developer experience at Air New Zealand. The Role You’ll Play As a senior engineer, you will: Design and implement scalable cloud infrastructure and platform services that empower product teams to build, deploy, and operate with speed and confidence. Lead CI/CD platform development, owning the build, test, and deployment systems that underpin dozens of applications. Champion automation and Infrastructure as Code, driving reliability, consistency, and operational excellence. Collaborate closely with software engineers, SREs, and security specialists to deliver secure, observable, and resilient platforms. Mentor and support engineers growing their DevOps and platform capabilities — fostering a culture of learning and innovation. Contribute to and influence platform strategy, tooling decisions, and technical direction across the organisation. Support key platforms such as Kubernetes (EKS), ECS, API Gateway, and Kafka, helping ensure their scalability, reliability, and performance. What You’ll Bring 5+ years’ experience in software or platform engineering, ideally with exposure to microservices architecture and cloud-native development. A strong interest in DevOps, Platform Engineering, or Cloud Infrastructure, and a desire to deepen your expertise in this space.
