The DBaaS team designs, builds, and operates the services and infrastructure that power DigitalOcean's Database-as-a-Service offerings. From customer-facing APIs to the automation that provisions, upgrades, monitors, and maintains databases, we own the complete database lifecycle. As a Staff Software Engineer, you'll provide technical leadership while building highly scalable, resilient database platform services that support our growing global customer base. This role reports to the Senior Engineering Manager within the Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) organization. What You'll Do Develop and enhance customer-facing Database-as-a-Service (DBaaS) products. Design, build, and maintain scalable, resilient backend services. Own end-to-end technical solutions, from architecture and design through deployment and production support. Lead the technical direction of complex engineering initiatives across multiple teams. Build and operate globally distributed cloud services running on Kubernetes. Develop backend services and APIs using Go (Golang), REST, and gRPC. Design reliable automation for database provisioning, upgrades, backups, recovery, and lifecycle management.
